Dream of Dogs & Imposters

July 2, 1995

[When I had this dream, we lived in a one bedroom apartment in the upstairs of a house. There was a huge tree overhanging the side where the outside stairway led up to the entrance. The landlady lived downstairs]

My husband and I were in our living room. It was a warm evening and we had the inside door open. In the dark outside I saw a man standing on our porch. He just walked right in without even knocking. He had on a white trench coat, a hat and dark glasses, and was very angry. He began addressing my husband in a loud voice. He said he was looking for the woman who lived downstairs and someone down there had told him she wasn't home. I asked who he was and he said he was the preacher. He was very pushy and rude.

Then it was daylight and I saw a big woman on our porch. She seemed to be hung up in the tree outside the house. Some people helped her get out of it. I went to the door, she had a very sullen expression that never changed. I tried to open the door. There were people of all ages crowding the small porch and all the way down the stairs. They did not speak, but I sensed that they wanted to come in, to gain entrance to the house through our apartment. I told them to go away, and without a word they turned and left. I was upset because when they left, I could see the damage they had done to our home. The porch railing was completely broken off, and there was garbage and trash all over the stairs.

I came back in and told my husband what they had done. Then I saw lights going on and off in other rooms. (There were many more rooms in my dream than our apartment actually had). Somehow, boys and girls had gotten in. I went in one bedroom and found 3 or 4 teenage girls sprawled on the beds, watching TV. Their attitude was very lazy and insolent. I told them to get out of my house. They just ignored me. I had the strong impression that they thought if they pretended hard enough that they belonged there, I would let them stay. I looked in another room and there was a boy about 12 playing games on the computer. When I told them to leave, they just kept looking at me. They seemed to just want to be in our house, pretending they belonged there. I had to yell at them and drive them out to get them to leave. I was very upset at being invaded by strangers who didn't belong here.

Then I heard a large number of people coming into the downstairs . I opened our door to the downstairs, and I could see a large number of people filling the downstairs and headed for the stairway. I shut the door and tried to lock it, but there was no lock. So I cracked the door to see what was happening. Instead of people, I saw the downstairs was full of dogs. I began to tell my husband what I was seeing; 3 Irish Setters, Cocker Spaniels, all colors, shapes and sizes of dogs were running around in the basement. They couldn't open the door. Then I woke up.

John 10:1 I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, he who does not enter by the door into the sheepfold, but climbs up some other way is a thief and a robber.

I have only had two dreams in my lifetime that I know were from the Lord. They are still vivid after years, and for many years I have pondered what it was that God was showing me. Things in this world have changed drastically in a short span of time (since 1995) and today it is much easier to lay hold of what He was showing me then. There will be many who will attempt to attach themselves, as if they belonged, to those who are genuine servants of the Most High God. There have always been imposter's, counterfeits and play actors within the Church... people who are not genuinely sincere. God knows exactly who they are, and will deal with them at the appointed time. They actually are doing God a service... they are testing those who are following Christ... to see if His own will follow Him at all costs, or be turn aside. I believe that with this dream, at the time I had it, was a warning to me not to trust people on the premise of 'giving the benefit of the doubt' and 'not wanting to be judgmental.' But to be led by the Spirit in all things. They may appear to do some damage at first, and to want to conform in a measure... but they are not a real threat to the child of God. They will be separated when and how He deems appropriate.

Isaiah 56:10-12 Israel's watchmen are blind, they are all without knowledge; they are all dumb dogs, they cannot bark; dreaming, lying down, they love to slumber. Yes, the dogs are greedy; they never have enough. And such are the shepherds who cannot understand; they have all turned to their own way, each one to his own gain, from every quarter one and all. Come, say they, We will fetch wine, and we will fill ourselves with strong drink! Tomorrow shall be as this day, a day great beyond measure.
