PROVE ALL THINGS...
Believing in and following after Jesus Christ... is daily becoming more challenging. The obstacles and stumbling blocks we are faced with today are far different than those we encountered even 20 years ago. We are surrounded by apostasy, deception, and every vile thing ever conceived in the heart of man. The grosser the "darkness," the more it calls itself "light." The deeper the deception, the more it is being passed off as "truth into the mysteries of God." Multitudes of people are actually embracing this darkness, and reveling in it. When voices are raised in opposition to the 'man of the hour' or the 'error of the teaching' there is instant outrage followed by vicious attacks, all fully justified by both the deceived and the deceiver's.
Those with eyes to see and ears to hear... are being tried right now. They are grieved in their inner man at the attacks being waged against the Gospel of Christ. On a regular basis scripture is being fulfilled before our eyes, and it is not a pretty sight.
2 Peter 3:16 Speaking of this as he does in all of his letters. There are some things in those [epistles of Paul] that are difficult to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist and misconstrue to their own utter destruction, just as [they distort and misinterpret] the rest of the Scriptures.
2 Timothy 3:4-5 [They will be] treacherous [betrayers], rash, [and] inflated with self-conceit. [They will be] lovers of sensual pleasures and vain amusements more than and rather than lovers of God. For [although] they hold a form of piety (true religion), they deny and reject and are strangers to the power of it [their conduct belies the genuineness of their profession]. Avoid [all] such people [turn away from them].
Man, in his finite wisdom, has devised another gospel, another Jesus, another God... more to their liking, in flagrant contradiction to scripture, all the while (mis)using scripture to substantiate their falsehoods... and they 'love to have it so.' Confusion is rampant today, both within the Church as well as the world at large. We are seeing discontent, strife, and fighting in the home, the schools, the workplace, on the roads, wherever there are people, there is turmoil.
Our generation is not the first to fall into apostasy, but it is certainly the last. That which calls itself the Church today, is overall behaving just as the Israelites did in the Old Testament. Isaiah 30:9-11 For this is a rebellious people, faithless and lying sons, children who will not hear the law and instruction of the Lord; Who [virtually] say to the seers [by their conduct], See not! and to the prophets, Prophesy not to us what is right! Speak to us smooth things, prophesy deceitful illusions. Get out of the true way, turn aside out of the path, cease holding up before us the Holy One of Israel.
In effect, what we are saying today by our actions is... "We don't want to submit to and obey God, we want God to give us the desires of our heart (flesh) and let us live sumptuously in the world at the same time. We don't want anything to do with suffering in this life, or turning the other cheek, no... we want leaders that will only tell us of God's great love for us, without any strings attached." And guess what? Leaders willing to do just that are falling all over themselves in an attempt to gather as many followers as they can, building huge organizations they call "ministries," and claiming God's approval and blessing on all their efforts. Jesus said... "If I be lifted up I'll draw all men to me." How do we honestly justify lifting up our selves... and trying to pass it off as lifting up the LORD? Since when did spreading the Gospel of Christ require a savvy marketing strategy?... and millions of dollars? What happened to "Not by might, nor by power, but by MY SPIRIT, saith the Lord?"
We have multitudes today who are so conditioned and brainwashed by the ways of the world, that the ways of the Spirit are completely foreign to them. They have no personal knowledge of... or relationship with... the Father or the Son... yet they are fully convinced that all is right with them, and they are heaven bound. We have those who call themselves believers, who have never even read the Bible for themselves, yet consider themselves spiritually mature and righteous before God. Far too many people are caught up in worshiping the Minister or the Ministry, more than they are worshiping God. They are captivated with outward appearances... having no 'inner witness' by which to judge spiritual things. If we are not walking in a relationship with God, we will fall into deception today, because it is everywhere.
Isaiah 3:12 As for My people, children are their oppressors, and women rule over them. O My people, your leaders cause you to err, and they confuse (destroy and swallow up) the course of your paths.
Luke 20:46-47 Beware of the scribes, which desire to walk in long robes, and love greetings in the markets, and the highest seats in the synagogues, and the chief rooms at feasts; Which devour widows' houses, and for a show make long prayers: the same shall receive greater damnation.
2 Timothy 3:5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
We see those who call themselves 'Christian' ripping and tearing at each other on blogs and forums across the internet. We see wolves in sheep's clothing, ravaging the Lord's flock, and defying any to stand against what they are doing by quoting 1Chronicles 16:22 Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm. And because God doesn't strike them dead on the spot for their blasphemy, they think that they are getting away with it, while those who are following them instead of the Lord, remain ensnared by their false teachings. Jesus said, "let the blind lead the blind, and they shall both fall into the ditch." It is not enough to articulately 'talk the talk'... we must be able through strong adversity to 'walk the walk,'...and that we cannot do in our own strength.
Jesus said in John 5:41 I receive not honor from men. You have to search far and wide today to find a man of God... a man who will not accept the praise of others... but gives all Glory and Honor to JESUS ALONE. JESUS is our example; Jesus ALONE is who we are called to follow. Yet today we are much more willing to follow a man, (or woman) who tells us pleasing things, than to follow Christ the LORD. Jesus went on to say in verses 42-44 But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you. I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive. How can ye believe, which receive honor one of another, and seek not the honor that cometh from God only?
There is a separating work taking place, and it is the Spirit of God that is doing the separating. It is not something that man can control, stop, change or even understand. This separating is happening within homes and families, within congregations, workplaces, home groups, no place is off-limits. How many of us really believe the WORD of GOD... unto us?
Do we really believe...?
That "the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God."
Or that "And a man's foes shall be they of his own household."
"The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it."
How about... "Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men."
"And whosoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea."
"For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt."
"If any man come to me, and hate not his father, and mother, and wife, and children, and brethren, and sisters, yea, and his own life also, he cannot be my disciple."
"And whosoever doth not bear his cross, and come after me, cannot be my disciple."
"So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple."
"And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved."
"Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake."
We are seeing this proclamation in Isaiah 66:5 manifestly fulfilled in many arenas in this hour among those both great and small.... "Hear the word of the LORD, ye that tremble at his word; Your brethren that hated you, that cast you out for my name's sake, said, Let the LORD be glorified: but he shall appear to your joy, and they shall be ashamed." We know that in every dispute, both sides see themselves as the righteous ones who will be vindicated. What we had all better come to the realization of is that each and every one of us will indeed 'reap what we have sown'... and that we all will be judged by our own words... "For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned."
It is evident from what comes out of our mouths... that we do not believe what Jesus said above. If we did, we would keep quiet most of the time, only speaking what the Spirit quickened to us to say, for fear of offending the LORD. Are we really prepared to 'stand behind' every word and opinion we utter? When it involves other believers, we can take a lesson from Paul's epistle to the Ephesians, chapter 4:29-32...
Let no foul or polluting language, nor evil word nor unwholesome or worthless talk [ever] come out of your mouth, but only such [speech] as is good and beneficial to the spiritual progress of others, as is fitting to the need and the occasion, that it may be a blessing and give grace (God's favor) to those who hear it.
And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God [do not offend or vex or sadden Him], by Whom you were sealed (marked, branded as God's own, secured) for the day of redemption (of final deliverance through Christ from evil and the consequences of sin).
Let all bitterness and indignation and wrath (passion, rage, bad temper) and resentment (anger, animosity) and quarreling (brawling, clamor, contention) and slander (evil-speaking, abusive or blasphemous language) be banished from you, with all malice (spite, ill will, or baseness of any kind).
And become useful and helpful and kind to one another, tenderhearted (compassionate, understanding, loving-hearted), forgiving one another [readily and freely], as God in Christ forgave you.
We are not seeing very much of this kind of exchange among believers these days. Each one is attached to their 'doctrinal camp,' walking in the light of the fires they have started, all calling it 'the work of the Lord.' In-fighting and verbal assaults are commonplace, both within each individual camp, and amongst the camps themselves. Everyone has their scriptural back-ups to support their position and will angrily defend against all who come against them.
2 Thessalonians 2:9-12 The coming [of the lawless one, the antichrist] is through the activity and working of Satan and will be attended by great power and with all sorts of [pretended] miracles and signs and delusive marvels - [all of them] lying wonders - And by unlimited seduction to evil and with all wicked deception for those who are perishing (going to perdition) because they did not welcome the Truth but refused to love it that they might be saved. Therefore God sends upon them a misleading influence, a working of error and a strong delusion to make them believe what is false, In order that all may be judged and condemned who did not believe in [who refused to adhere to, trust in, and rely on] the Truth, but [instead] took pleasure in unrighteousness.
We are already seeing the demonstration of great signs and wonders being performed by individuals who claim that they are the working of God. They are NOT. This purported 'Healing Revival' in Lakeland, Florida with Todd Bentley is being widely embraced around the world as the next big move of God. This is as blatant an example that we as believers could ask for... of what 'false manifestations' look like. With lots of hype, emotionalism, and theatrics, they are certainly putting on a good 'show.' You can read about what is going on in the newspapers and watch what is happening on the God channel, or the internet. Ask yourself:
What kind of witness are you getting in your spirit?
Where is Jesus being lifted up and glorified in what is going on?
Where is the Gospel of Christ presented in any way?
Where is the repentance, the humility, the holiness that must accompany a genuine outpouring of God's Spirit?
People's hearts are not being turned to God...they are after what they can get from God; primarily the restoration of their bodies. People are running after the show, the feeling, the experience. There are many who call themselves Christian today, who are lusting after signs and wonders, they are hungry for power and authority, and they are embracing whatever comes along that feeds their hunger... regardless of the source behind it. These are the same people that revel over the appearance of gold dust, and feathers and gemstones appearing out of thin air. How the enemy of our souls must mockingly ridicule and laugh at God's children... they will fall for almost anything he throws at them. Why? ...because they are not grounded in a solid relationship with Christ. They have not died to their fleshly appetites; they have only rearranged them to have a more pious appearance.
If we are not walking in the spirit... we are susceptible to all forms of deception and seducing spirits. Those in deception are blinded to the fact that they have been deceived. They are fully convinced that the spirits they are hearing and following after are of God.
The spirit of antichrist has been in the world from the beginning. It is not something reserved just for the end. Our love and fidelity first and foremost, must be towards Jesus Christ our Lord.
2 John 1:9-11 Anyone who runs on ahead [of God] and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ [who is not content with what He taught] does not have God; but he who continues to live in the doctrine (teaching) of Christ [does have God], he has both the Father and the Son. If anyone comes to you and does not bring this doctrine [is disloyal to what Jesus Christ taught], do not receive him [do not accept him, do not welcome or admit him] into [your] house or bid him Godspeed or give him any encouragement. For he who wishes him success [who encourages him, wishing him Godspeed] is a partaker in his evil doings.
Today we have a multitude of people who are not content to abide in the doctrine of Christ... they add to and take away, building what they want to suit their needs and desires. If signs and wonders are what you crave, then by all means run after them. But if your hearts cry is that you may be found pleasing in God's sight, then run the other way as fast as you can.
2 Peter 1:4-10 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;
And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;
And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.
Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall:
If we do these things we shall never fall, leaves open the reverse, that if we fail to do these things, we will indeed fall.
Philippians 2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For us as believers, it is not 'finished' until we are changed, either in death when we pass over or if we should survive to the last trump and our physical bodies are translated, "changed in the twinkling of an eye." Until one of those events takes place, we must continually "press toward the mark of the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus." We cannot slumber and take our ease; we cannot rest on our accomplishments or trust in anyone else's righteousness to make us worthy to enter in.
In Matthew 13, Jesus was explaining privately with His disciples the meaning of some of His parables given to the multitudes.
Verses 38-42 The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one; The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels. As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world. The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity; And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.
We aren't going anywhere people. We are here for the duration, until the last trump sounds. Even now the angels of the Lord are preparing the harvest. The tares are being gathered together into bundles. We should be far more concerned with offending God, than offending man. If we are walking in relationship with God, we cannot help but offend man. John 15:18 If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you. Jesus also said in John 8:31-32.... If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
Paul warned us in Romans 6:16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
We are all being tried and tested right now... "And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not."
Be strong in the LORD, and in the power of His might. Do not be dismayed at the events unfolding before our eyes, for these things must come to pass. At the same time, we must be ever diligent. We must exercise our spiritual discernment, not judging by our reasoning mind. God is no respecter of persons, and neither can we be. We must "Prove all things; hold fast that which is good." And rest confidently in Jesus' promises unto "them that believe."
Revelation 3:10 Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.
Amen & Amen
