Title. A Psalm.
Psa 13:1 A Psalm of David. How long wilt thou forget me, O LORD? for ever? how long wilt thou hide thy face from me?
CPSB Note: How long...? = Until when? Fig.Erotesis. Ap. 6. Erotesis; or, Interrogating.
(Gen 3:9; Gen 13:9; Psa. 35:10). The asking of questions, not for information or for an answer.
Gen 3:8 And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.
Gen 3:9 And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?
Gen 13:9 Is not the whole land before thee? separate thyself, I pray thee, from me: if thou wilt take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or if thou depart to the right hand, then I will go to the left.
Psa 35:10 All my bones shall say, LORD, who is like unto thee, which deliverest the poor from him that is too strong for him, yea, the poor and the needy from him that spoileth him?
How long? Four times repeated is the Fig, Anaphora . Ap.6. Anaphora; or, Like Sentence Beginnings (Deut 28:3-6). The repetition of the same word at the beginning of successive sentences. Forget...face. Fig. Anthropopatheia. Ap. 6. Anthropopatheia; or, Condescension (Gen. 1:2; 8:21; Psa. 74:11; Jer. 2:13; Hos. 11:10). Ascribing to God what belongs to human and rational beings, irrational creatures, or inanimate things. See 9. 12. 17. 18, and 10. 11, 12.
LORD. Heb. Jehovah Ap. 4 . II.
(Rob note: Jehovah God = the God of covenant relationship with those whom He created for His pleasure. (Rev. 4.11 "Thou art worthy, O LORD, to receive glory and honour and power: For Thou hast created all things, and for Thy pleasure they are and were created.") Remember that this psalm is both a prayer and a praise, in response to psalms 9 and 10 whose subject matter is the Great Tribulation. The grand climax of Satans rule as the god of this world by default due the fall of man in the Garden of Eden. The Father has allowed him to thus display his true colors. And prove what manner of god he would be or is. And He is using him to bring many sons unto perfection. It is note worthy that in the Old Testament the Heart of God is laid out for us to see if only we will have the eyes to see it. Thank God for the Holy Spirit Who comes to teach us and lead us into all truth. The name Jehovah is combined in the Old Testament with ten other words, which form what are known as "the Jehovah Titles." They are presented as follows in the CPSB Ap. 4. In the order in which they occur in the Hebrew Canon.
1. Jehovah Jireh = Jehovah will see. Or provide. Gen 22:8, 14. (8) "My son God will provide Himself a lamb"; Heb. "The Lamb"
2. Jehovah Ropheka = Jehovah that healeth thee. Ex. 15:26.
3. Jehovah Nissi = Jehovah my banner. Ex 17:15.
(when Israel fought against Amalek and Moses an Aaron and Hur went to the top of the hill, as long as Moses held up his hand Israel prevailed, when he lowered his hand Amalek prevailed. (Amalek, a descendant of Esau, Esau is the flesh, Israel is the Spirit: i.e. the new nature given following the confession of his name Jacob = surplanter, deceiver for we know that the name equals the nature (character). This speaks of the salvation of YAH for it is God who pursues, wrestles and prevails over Jacob, and upon receiving the confession of His name (nature, character) gives him a new name and a new nature, and so it is with us). Here empty hands are raised unto the LORD and he gives victory Jehovah Nissi, is a military Banner, but we are not involved in the battle, the victory is the LORDS, our part is to raise empty hands unto the MOST HIGH in worship.
4. Jehovah Mekaddishkem = Jehovah that doth sanctify you - Ex 31:13; Lev. 20:8; 21:8; 22:32; Ezek. 20:12
Exo 31:13 Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am the LORD that doth sanctify you.
Lev 20:8 And ye shall keep my statutes, and do them: I am the LORD which sanctify you.
Lev 21:8 Thou shalt sanctify him therefore; for he offereth the bread of thy God: he shall be holy unto thee: for I the LORD, which sanctify you, am holy.
Lev 22:32 Neither shall ye profane my holy name; but I will be hallowed among the children of Israel: I am the LORD which hallow you,
Eze 20:12 Moreover also I gave them my sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am the LORD that sanctify them.
(Rob note: That they might know = understand, comprehend, to know is to be intimate, familiar with all the details of a subject matter. It was and is a free gift from the giver of all good things. We do not attain sanctification by our behavior. Our behavior is changed because He has sanctified us, and he has sanctified us that He may indwell our hearts by faith. That we may be with Him where He is. (John 17:24, Eph. 2:6.)
Joh 17:24 Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world.
Eph 2:6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:
5. Jehovah Shalom = Jehovah send peace. Judg. 6:24
(Rob note: Here we find Gideon threshing wheat in the Winepress, and the salutation of the angel has nothing to do with the outward actions of the man Gideon but speaks life into him. For though he is hiding in the winepress he is greeted by the angel with "The LORD is with thee thou mighty man of valour") Eph. 2.14
Eph 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Eph 2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Eph 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
Eph 2:13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.
Eph 2:14 For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us.
(Rob note: Does not the Scripture say "Know ye not that your body is the temple of the living GOD"? and what is the pattern of the tabernacle with an outer court, the holy place, and the holy of Holies, and that separated by the veil. Now when the veil in Herod's temple was rent from top to bottom, there was no longer an ark of the covenant there, it had been lost for centuries.
Rev 11:19 And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament: and there were lightnings, and voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and great hail.
Now the ark of the covenant is none other than Christ Jesus. The ark under the Old Covenant is where the Shekinah Glory Dwelt, at the cross He tore down the division between our flesh and spirit beings allowing us to find peace, for He is our peace, having abolished the enmity of the flesh upon His cross. Baptism is not a type of some future event of full manifestation but a past, present and future reality, for we are made partakers of His death burial and resurrection. The confession of Paul the Apostle was "I AM crucified with Christ, nevertheless I live, and the life I live; I live by the Faith of the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me." This must become our confession as well. Christ Jesus was obedient to the death of the Cross, but even when as He bore the weight of the sins of the whole world, and "feeling" cut off from the Father, yet he trusted in the Father and His last words were the greatest declaration of trust the universe has ever witnessed. With no feeling of reassurance he yielded up His life unto death and declared, "Father, into thine hands I commit my spirit," but the picture is of the Living Christ coming and demolishing the separation within us from the full favor and rights of the son. And making of the two one new man, Made in His own image, to reflect the truth of the Father to this fallen world.
Eph 2:15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;
It is critical to understand we are invited to sit with Him in his throne, not on His throne. Lucifer wanted to replace Him on His throne, and to have a place above the Most High. This we never see even the slightest whisper of in the Lord Jesus. He always defers to the Father, and prefers the Father, Similarly the HOLY SPIRIT never speaks of himself, but bears witness to the Father and the Son, and yet the Scripture testifies that all manner of blasphemy against the Father and the Son will be forgiven, but blasphemy against the HOLY SPIRIT will not be forgiven in this life or in the ages to come. We are not to be concerned with our ultimate status or position in the Kingdom, that is the determination of the Father, it should be enough that we are accounted worthy to bear His Image and likeness in this world, and that we have the promise that He is our inheritance. And what a wonderful Father He is that He would give us Himself. He will withhold no good thing from the one He loves and who loves Him. We may sit with Him in His throne and exercise the creative power of His WORD calling those things that are not as though they already were. But we are never to look upon ourselves, He is the eternal One and there is no life apart from Him, our eyes need be fixed on Christ. Only He sits on the throne as God. Father, Son and Holy Spirit in perfect unity and submission to each other. Only in submission can you silence the double mind, and have a single eye.
1Sa 3:19 And Samuel grew, and the LORD was with him, and did let none of his words fall to the ground.
1Sa 3:20 And all Israel from Dan even to Beersheba knew that Samuel was established to be a prophet of the LORD.
If your life is hid with Christ in God, He will establish your words and bring them to pass; they will not fall to the ground. Our focus is to glorify the Son and lift Him up before men, to let the Light of the world, Yeshua Jesus the Christ of God, shine forth in our lives and He in us bears testimony to the truth of the Father and His love. Jesus Who is the "Prince of Peace," among His titles, said I came not to bring peace but a sword. The sword will come because the mass of humanity fears to walk in the light lest their deeds be manifest. But we must not fear them who can destroy the body. The sting of death has been removed. Jesus passed through the midst when they would throw from the cliff, for before the time appointed of the Father nothing could touch Him. Some of us will live to see Him return in person, many today no longer believe He will return in person but only in His people.
I Do look for His appearing not to escape the coming Day of the LORD but to be filled with the fullness of the sons of God and serve as a witness of Him to the nations, whether by life or death is of no consequence. For I claim no special courage, or exemption from suffering or death. Death no longer has power in my life, to be absent from the body is to be present with my Lord. For I have received this word from Him, I AM the resurrection and the Life he that liveth and believeth in Me shall never die. The relationship of peace is one of complete rest and trust. Knowing He has sufficient grace to carry me through to the end and to the beginning).
6. Jehovah Zebaoth = Jehovah of Hosts. I Sam. 1:3. And frequently.
1Sa 1:3 And this man went up out of his city yearly to worship and to sacrifice unto the LORD of hosts in Shiloh. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, the priests of the LORD, were there.
Heb 12:22 But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels,
Heb 12:23 To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect,
Heb 12:24 And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.
7. Jehovah Zidkenu = Jehovah our righteousness. Jer. 23:6; 33:16.
Jer 23:1 Woe be unto the pastors that destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture! saith the LORD.
Jer 23:2 Therefore thus saith the LORD God of Israel against the pastors that feed my people; Ye have scattered my flock, and driven them away, and have not visited them: behold, I will visit upon you the evil of your doings, saith the LORD.
Jer 23:3 And I will gather the remnant of my flock out of all countries whither I have driven them, and will bring them again to their folds; and they shall be fruitful and increase.
Jer 23:4 And I will set up shepherds over them which shall feed them: and they shall fear no more, nor be dismayed, neither shall they be lacking, saith the LORD.
Jer 23:5 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth.
Jer 23:6 In his days Judah shall be saved, and Israel shall dwell safely: and this is his name whereby he shall be called, THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.
Jer 33:14 Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will perform that good thing which I have promised unto the house of Israel and to the house of Judah.
Jer 33:15 In those days, and at that time, will I cause the Branch of righteousness to grow up unto David; and he shall execute judgment and righteousness in the land.
Jer 33:16 In those days shall Judah be saved, and Jerusalem shall dwell safely: and this is the name wherewith she shall be called, The LORD our righteousness.
(Rob note: Yeshua Jesus is the Righteous branch, and He has become our salvation and righteousness, and has FINISHED His work, and is set down at the right hand of Majesty on High. The times of the fulfillment of all things are in the hand of the Father. No man knoweth the day nor the hour, No, not even the Son, therefore we are repeatedly admonished to be alert and watching for His appearing, to keep our lamps trimmed. Have you ever seen a smoking kerosene lamp. When I was young my mother used to keep glass kerosene lamps filled with fragrant colored oil and we would burn them in the evenings. If the lamps wick was not properly adjusted the lamp would sputter and smoke and the whole glass lantern would become dark with the smoke from the lamp. If the lamp was trimmed, properly adjusted the lamp gave off a warm pleasant glow, that was pleasant and created a peaceful ambience. So are we when we try to have a righteousness apart from the gift of God, we become soiled and sooty and although we may be saved, we give a poor light and the light we give may be more akin to darkness than to light.. Yes my friend He is your and my righteousness. Our righteousness is as filthy rags, or as a menstruous cloth).
8. Jehovah Shammah = Jehovah is there. Ezek. 48:35. ( The dimension of the City of God, for His purpose is to dwell with man.)
Eze 48:35 It was round about eighteen thousand measures; and the name of the city from that day shall be, The LORD is there.
There is also an understanding that there is no place where He is not, for David said though I make my bed in hell, there He is with me.
Psa 139:5 Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me.
Psa 139:6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it.
(Rob note: I cannot attain unto it, I cannot earn it, or add to it, or take away from it, but I can receive it with thanksgiving and confession, for it is the free gift of GOD. Fear NOT little lambs, for it is the Fathers good pleasure to give you the kingdom)
Psa 139:7 Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?
Psa 139:8 If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, Thou art there.
Psa 139:9 If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;
Psa 139:10 Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.
Psa 139:11 If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me.
Psa 139:12 Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee.
Psa 139:13 For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb.
Psa 139:14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.
Psa 139:15 My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
Psa 139:16 Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.
Psa 139:17 How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them!
Psa 139:18 If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, am still with thee.
Psa 139:19 Surely thou wilt slay the wicked, O God: depart from me therefore, ye bloody men.
Psa 139:20 For they speak against thee wickedly, and thine enemies take thy name in vain.
Psa 139:21 Do not I hate them, O LORD, that hate thee? and am not I grieved with those that rise up against thee?
Psa 139:22 I hate them with perfect hatred: I count them mine enemies.
Psa 139:23 Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:
Psa 139:24 And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
9. Jehovah Elyon = Jehovah Most High. Psa. 7:17; 47:2; 97:9.
Psa 7:17 I will praise the LORD according to his righteousness: and will sing praise to the name of the LORD most high.
Psa 47:2 For the LORD most high is terrible; he is a great King over all the earth.
Psa 97:9 For thou, LORD, art high above all the earth: thou art exalted far above all gods.
10. Jehovah Roi = Jehovah My Shepherd. Psa. 23. 1.
Psa 23:1 A Psalm of David. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
CPSB: the DIVINE NAMES AND TITLES. Ap. 4 pg. 6. "We have seven of these referred to in Psa; 23, Inasmuch as JEHOVAH, as the "Good," "Great," and "Chief Shepherd," is engaged, in all the perfection of His attributes, on behalf of His sheep:
So we see the heart of the Father in the Old Testament, We see His favor, love and protection. We must needs abandon the God of our Imagination to see Him. He is not callous, indifferent or cruel. He is the giver of all good things, giving life and light to all. He takes no delight in the death of the wicked and has stated through the Holy Spirit in His WORD it is His purpose to bring all things lost in the rebellion back to Himself. We make judgments against the Most High and place upon Him the characteristics of mortal men, this is called Anthropopatheia, but He is not human, he is Divine and Eternal. He is Love, and displayed the fullness of His love in sending Himself in the form of His Son to ransom us and lift us above the lies we were trapped in. Even today with the New Covenant made in the Blood of Yeshua Jesus, would benefit from meditating on the Love that is the Father).
Psa 13:2 How long shall I take counsel in my soul, having sorrow in my heart daily? how long shall mine enemy be exalted over me?
CPSB Note: 2. my soul = me ( for emphasis) . Heb. nephesh Ap. 13.
(Rob note: in this life we will have tribulation, distress, and sorrow, But let us consider lest we become overburdened with sorrows that we have an advocate with the Father Jesus Christ the righteous, Who was a man o f sorrows and acquainted with grief. And he tells us fear not, for I have overcome this world. Let us then run unto Him in our distress, and find consolation and peace and rest for our souls, for all these things He has promised and will deliver if we would but ask in His name (NATURE). Which was the nature of complete submission. And we will find His WORD is TRUE, He has made to sit far above all principalities, powers, might, and dominion, and placed all our enemies beneath our feet. We must submit unto Him in all things that He may be glorified in us, trusting in His faithfulness to provide all we need, and trusting he will give us the desires of our heart. To be ever in His presence.)
Psa 13:3 Consider and hear me, O LORD my God: lighten mine eyes, lest I sleep the sleep the death;
CPSB Note: 3. hear = answer. God = Heb. Elohim Ap. 4. II. lighten mine eyes = Revive me. sleep the sleep of death = sleep my last sleep. Heb Fig. Polyptoton Ap. 6. Poyptoton; or Many Inflections. The repetition of the same part of speech in different inflections.
1. Verbs (Gen 50. 24. 2 Kings 21:13).
2. Nouns and pronouns (Gen. 9. 25. Rom. 11:36).
3. Adjectives (2 Cor. 9:8).
Psa 13:4 Lest mine enemy say, I have prevailed against him; and those that trouble me rejoice when I am moved.
(Rob note: My friends remember the statement by Paul that if the Princes of this world had known the hidden plan of God, that would seal their fate they would never have slain the LORD of Glory. There is more at stake here than us showing forth the glory of God in victory over our enemies. The Romish Church tried to establish a stranglehold on the world by force of arms in the Crusades. But the real purpose of the Father is to seek and to save, those who are lost, and have their names written in the book of life. He is working out the mystery of His will. As I read recently, when He came in the flesh he did not Messiah in the way they thought He should Messiah, they wanted a visible earthly kingdom. He brought an invisible heavenly Kingdom. They wanted Him to return them the days of the glory of Israel, he wanted only to glorify His Father. The servant is not greater than his master. Let us not be deceived by our own vain imaginations. Our homeland America is a nation under judgment, but if all we want is return to the glories of the past we will miss the Now of His purposes in bringing the judgments. For judgment comes to reveal the hidden heart, and to prepare his bride, that she may indeed be a spotless Bride, without spot or blemish, made white for her wedding day).
Psalm 13:5, 6 (S2, p. 731). PRAISE. (Introversion.)
S2 / v / 5-. Past.
w / -5. Future.
w / 6 -. Future.
V / - 6. Past.
Psa 13:5 But I have trusted in thy mercy; my heart shall rejoice in thy salvation.
CPSB Note: trusted = confided. Heb. batah. Ap. 69. I. TRUST. 1. batah = to Confide in, so as to be secure and without fear. ("Perfect love casts out fear") This is the word rendered "trust" in 107 passages. mercy = lovingkindness, or grace.
Psa 51:1 To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David, when Nathan the prophet came unto him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba. Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness: according unto the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.
Psa 51:2 Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.
Psa 51:3 For I acknowledge my transgressions: and my sin is ever before me.
Psa 51:4 Against thee, thee only, have I sinned, and done this evil in thy sight: that thou mightest be justified when thou speakest, and be clear when thou judgest.
Psa 51:5 Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.
Psa 51:6 Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part thou shalt make me to know wisdom.
Psa 51:7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.
Psa 51:8 Make me to hear joy and gladness; that the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice.
(Rob note: Here is the picture of the Great Shepherd, who leaves the ninety and nine (The Glories of heaven and the innumerable company of angels around the throne) to seek and to save them that are lost. For one sheep he will venture out into the night, and finding the stray lamb he will break its leg, and then carries the lamb with Him until the leg is whole, and while the Lamb is continually with Him it learns the voice of the Great Shepherd, and picks up the very essence of Him, his smell, and is comforted not knowing the shepherd has saved His life, only knowing the love of the shepherd. That lamb will then follow and come when the shepherd calls and will thereafter not stray far from the comfort and security of that voice. Our Lord said 'I have other sheep not of this fold,' and he is still seeking them today, but how will they see if there is no ambassador to send and how will they hear if there are no lips to proclaim. May the LORD of the Harvest send us forth as laborers for the fields are white unto harvest).
Psa 51:9 Hide thy face from my sins, and blot out all mine iniquities.
Psa 51:10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.
Psa 51:11 Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me.
Psa 51:12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.
Psa 51:13 Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.
Psa 51:14 Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness.
Psa 51:15 O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise.
Psa 51:16 For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering.
Psa 51:17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.
Psa 63:1 A Psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah. O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is;
Psa 63:2 To see thy power and thy glory, so as I have seen thee in the sanctuary.
Psa 63:3 Because thy lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise thee.
Psa 63:4 Thus will I bless thee while I live: I will lift up my hands in thy name.
Psa 63:5 My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise thee with joyful lips:
Psa 63:6 When I remember thee upon my bed, and meditate on thee in the night watches.
Psa 63:7 Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice.
Psa 63:8 My soul followeth hard after thee: thy right hand upholdeth me.
Psa 63:9 But those that seek my soul, to destroy it, shall go into the lower parts of the earth.
Psa 63:10 They shall fall by the sword: they shall be a portion for foxes.
Psa 63:11 But the king shall rejoice in God; every one that sweareth by him shall glory: but the mouth of them that speak lies shall be stopped.
Psa 13:6 I will sing unto the LORD, because he hath dealt bountifully with me.
CPSB Note: dealt bountifully with = compensated.
Ezr 9:13 And after all that is come upon us for our evil deeds, and for our great trespass, seeing that thou our God hast punished us less than our iniquities deserve, and hast given us such deliverance as this;
To the Chief Musician. (Yeshua, Jesus the Christ of God is the Chief Shepherd, the Chief Cornerstone and foundation stone, the Rock of Offence, and the Chief Musician) This term also signifies the Psalm is appropriate for public worship and for temple worship.
